Samsung Smart TV Not Showing All4

In the last few days I have noticed that my Samsung Smart TV is no longer showing the All4 App when I look for it. I tried searching through the apps (although there doesn’t seem to be a search feature) and just couldn’t see it anywhere.

To be fair my Samsung TV I think is about 9 or 10 years old so it is one of the older versions. I bought it initially so that I could cut out the cost of paying for a TV package and just watch stuff on catch up.  This did work and despite it costing I think around £350, I made the cost of it back in the first year as I cancelled my Sky TV package but just used the Sky box to watch stuff (yes you can do that if you didn’t realise).

A year or more ago I found that the ITV App no longer worked as it wasn’t supported on my TV but I lived with that as I could watch it on my iPad and to be honest I don’t watch that much on ITV. I do watch most stuff on BBC and Channel 4 though and I watch a lot of it on catch up as I don’t get to sit down and watch stuff when I might want to due to having a SEN child!

Anyway, it appears that older versions of Samsung TVs now no longer support All4 either so I decided I either needed to buy a new TV (the current one otherwise works fine so I was loathe to do this) or find another solution.

Samsung TV Firestick
The Firestick plugs in to an HDMI port on the back of your TV along with the rest of the mess of cables!

I had a sudden realisation that there were a couple of solutions out there, one of which is the Amazon Fire Stick. I thought that was worth a go as it was obviously much cheaper than buying a new television.

I bought the Fire stick lite as that was the cheapest (there is also an all singing and dancing version which I decided I didn’t need) and it seemed to do what I wanted (which was just to access the apps for iPlayer, ITVX, All4 and My 5.

It arrived within 48 hours and was pretty easy to set up. You just need to plug it in to an HDMI port (it also comes with an extender if you can’t plug it in directly) and a power socket and log in to your Amazon account (and the Apps for the ones that require logging in).

It has solved my problem of my Samsung Smart TV not showing All4 (or ITVX for that matter) for the time being at least, until I feel like I actually need to buy a new television.
